Encarta is provided by Microsoft for free. There is an upgrade available for £69:99

Brittanica is the largest online encyclopedia available. It is free and has no time limit.

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia provided online. It is excellent dor finding what you want, fast.


Ordnance Survey proides a free, high definiton map of the UK. It is not, however, adapted for the flat earth (see our page on this)

Multimap is an online map specially adapted for motoring. It also provides arial photogaphy

Google local provides high definition mapping and satalite photography for free.

3D Mapping

Google earth is the easiest software to use. The download is 0.5GB.

NASA World Wind provides detailed, USGS satalite maps, for free. It is harder to use but uses greater detail.

Geography Websites

AOL's Geography world comprises of over 500 links with a helpful search tool for every aspect of geography.

BBC Bitesize Geography is a BBC webpage which provides GCSE geography help and practice.
